25th UP PEDICON 2004, Ghaziabad

The Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Ghaziabad organized UP PEDICON 2004 (25TH Annual Conference of UP State Chapter of IAP) at Ghaziabad. This Silver Jubilee Conference of UP State IAP (Indian Academy of Pediatrics) was held at Ghaziabad for the first time. The conference was held at Hotel Mela Plaza, Ghaziabad on 27th & 28th November, 2004.
The conference was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr T Jacob John, a very learned scientist of international repute in the field of virology, infectious diseases and childhood immunization. Speaking on the occasion he highlighted the importance of children’s health and the need for organizing such conferences. The theme for the conference was “Telling the Truth - Cracks in Child Care - Miles to go.” This was an apt focus for the conference considering the state of children’s health in UP. The inaugural function was presided over by Honorary Secretary, Dr V K Rajpal (Agra) and was held in the presence of Patron – Dr Ramesh Prasad (Agra), President – Dr R S Panwar (Saharapur) and President-elect – Dr P P Mathur (Agra). Dr Ramesh Prasad was honoured with the lifetime achievement award during the conference.
Dr Jacob John delivered the key oration on “Past, Present and Future of Childhood Immunization”. With his vast experience in the field of virology and vaccinations he covered this extensive topic very comprehensively giving his vision for the future.
                                Dr S C Arya, a very senior and respected pediatrician of Delhi and head of the Pediatrics Department at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, inaugurated the scientific session of the conference.



Elaborate arrangements had been made by IAP Ghaziabad to take care of the hospitality of visiting dignitaries and guests. The IAP Ghaziabad team included Chairmen - Dr K K Khanna, Dr A K Saxena, Dr Anil Agarwal, Organizing Secretary - Dr Ashok Bhuwalka, Treasurer - Dr Subhash Batra, Editor - Dr Alka Agarwal, Joint Secretaries - Dr Rahul Garg, Dr Sanjay Banka, Scientific Secretaries - Dr Ashish Prakash, Dr Vivek Jain, Entertainment Secretary - Dr D K Tyagi and many others. A special cultural programme and banquet was arranged on the evening of 27th November at Chancellor Club. This was a big hit with the delegates and other guests.Ms Shibani Kashyap and her troupe enthralled them- all of them dancing and singing till late into the night.
                            We hope that this conference achieved its objective of updating the knowledge of Pediatricians of UP State and will help in improving their approach to patient care. The ultimate winner will be the “child” and nobody deserves the trophy more.

IAP Book Release by Hon. President of India

“Pals Provider Course” at Kashipur (Uttaranchal)

7th NCPID, Hyderabad

 The 7th National Conference of Pediatrics Infectious Diseases was organized by the infectious disease chapter of IAP on 11th & 12th Dec. 2004 at the most modern spacious auditorium of Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. The conference was well attended by about 500 delegates from all over the country.
As infections are taking a heavy toll of lives in the newborns and children, identifying, managing and preventing major infectious diseases can only achieve a reduction in the infant mortality. Hence, the theme of the conference was
“Fight Infections; Enhance Child Survival”.
                                   There was a galaxy of eminent guest faculty of 30 speakers from all over the country who participated in the conference. The highlight of the conference was the keynote address by
Dr. Marzio Babille, Chief (Health) of UNICEF, New Delhi, who underlined the importance of identifying, and effectively managing the diseases like diarrhea, measles and pneumonia, causing high mortality and morbidity.
                                  The ongoing epidemic of encephalopathy in various parts of the country and the cause related to it were discussed in the symposium participated by Dr. Vipin M. Vashishtha, Bijnor-U.P., Dr. Ravi Kumar of Warrangal – A.P. and Dr. Nitin Wairagkar of NIV, Pune- MH. This was a very good interactive session moderated by Dr.
M.Indra Shekhar Rao and chaired by Prof. Bhaskaran, Chairman, Expert Group on Encephalopathy, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
                                  
Dr. Raju C. Shah, President-Elect, IAP delivered the golden jubilee oration on “Challenges in infectious diseases”.
Several topics of prime importance in the day-to-day office practice like malaria, typhoid, dengue, diarrhea, and pneumonia were discussed. There was an interactive session on immunization in children. Appropriate diagnosis and rational use of antibiotics were also discussed by the panel of experts.
The conference was hosted in association with IAP twin cities and IAP – A.P state chapter coinciding with the golden jubilee celebrations of the two great institutions in Hyderabad - Niloufer Hospital for Children and Gandhi Medical College.
